The post would involve supporting a pupil in and out of the classroom under the close supervision and direction of the teacher and SENDCo. Support would be to build a relationship, keeping pupil 'on task’ and accessing a curriculum that meets their needs.

Line Manager : Class Teacher/ SEND Co-ordinator

To work under the direction/guidance of the class teacher/SEND Co-ordinator to support identified pupil to access the curriculum in the most effective way, appropriate to their needs and understanding.

To assist in the delivery and provision of needs outlined in an EHCP if applicable and to any other professional report.

To assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment.

To promote the inclusion of all pupils.

Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area with individual pupils or small groups as appropriate.

To promote the love of learning.

  1. Working under the direction/guidance of the class teacher/SEND Co-ordinator, to supervise and provide particular support for a pupil with special educational needs to enable them to learn as effectively as possible on their own and in group situations, taking into account the special needs involved.
  1. To support the pupil in the development of skills, e.g. (i) basic skills such as language, reading, writing, spelling and mathematics, (ii) encouragement of concentration, communication, sharing and other social skills, (iii) supporting their access to the curriculum through clarification and reinforcement of the subject matter at the appropriate level.
  1. To liaise closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and any external professional to support the implementation of any special programme(s) or EHCP requirements designed for the pupil.
  1. To monitor the pupil’s progress and report on any achievements or developments against their pupil progress targets; to contribute to professional meetings
  1. To identify opportunities for the pupil to work independently where appropriate, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times; at such times to support other pupils in the classroom as appropriate.
  1. To prepare suitable resources/work for the pupil under the guidance of the teacher, and to make or adapt resources (e.g. sight cards, visual timetables, personalised work-stations) to enable the pupil to access the learning at their level of understanding.
  1. To establish a good relationship with parents/carers.
  1. To assist the class teacher with the preparation of the classroom for lessons, where appropriate.
  1. To assist the pupil with physical needs as appropriate and agreed.
  1. To encourage the pupil to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  1. To provide support for the pupil’s emotional and social needs by encouraging and modelling positive behaviour in line with the School’s Behaviour policy and demonstrating high expectations of work and behaviour.

12. To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

  1. To assist with the supervision of the pupil out of lesson time, as necessary for their safety.
  1. To accompany the pupil on school visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
  1. To attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and performance development as required.
  1. To undertake any other broadly analogous duties.
