Who We Are: Are you an inspirational leader looking to develop further in school leadership? We are seeking a passionate colleague dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for our young people. Our small school, with 37 pupils across primary and secondary age ranges, is situated on two sites in Folkestone. The successful applicant will primarily teach at the secondary level but will spend time at both sites.

This role includes a 50% teaching commitment based on your specialism, to be discussed at the interview. Experience teaching both primary and secondary pupils, as well as children with Special Educational Needs, is advantageous. Our current cohort ranges from Year 3 to Year 11, with some following the National Curriculum and others on alternative pathways based on their learning needs

Our children come from diverse backgrounds and have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH), with many also having other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

We provide extensive therapeutic training and support as a trauma and attachment-informed organization. Our approach places the child at the centre of decision-making, ensuring collaboration among education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams, and our students to secure outstanding outcomes for all.

The Role: As a small and specialist school, the Deputy Head Teacher's approach will significantly influence the school's outcomes, successes, and character. We seek a practitioner who shares our vision and embodies our ethos in every decision and conversation, whether with pupils, parents, or professionals.

The Deputy Head Teacher will be well-supported by the Regional Executive Head Teacher, Head Teacher, admin and compliance teams, and a dedicated Head of Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum. You will work closely with school leaders in similar settings across the region and the country, alongside a specialist Regional SENCO.

Compass leaders and managers understand the importance of working with professionals from other agencies to influence lasting change. You will need boundless enthusiasm, a commitment to doing the right thing, and the leadership to guide your team.

The Right Person:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • At least one year in a Senior Leadership Role
  • Proven record of good or outstanding teaching practice
  • Excellent, efficient, and emotionally intelligent communicator
  • Ability/willingness to teach a subject specialism to GCSE or equivalent vocational level
  • Strong desire to work inclusively within an emotionally literate environment, supporting children with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
  • Experience in crisis management, managing challenging behaviours, and working with children with SEMH difficulties
  • Proven experience in implementing a creative and academically engaging curriculum that meets individual pupils' needs while maintaining high educational standards
  • Experience working effectively with hard-to-reach or disengaged families
