Our client is engaged in a critical role on the Dreadnought submarine programme to develop the functional design of the Active Vehicle Control System (AVCS), the system used to drive and
manoeuvre the boat. The work uses Model Based Systems Engineering MBSE techniques at scale on a safety critical system.

We currently have vacancies for Simulink Development Engineers within Mechanical, Actuation, Fluidic Systems or Operator Assistance. As a Simulink Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the functional design and development of the control, management or monitoring of Mechanical, Actuation, Fluidic Systems or Operator Assistance systems, working in one of the delivery work stream teams as part of the AVC Functional Software organisation.

Your main responsibilities as a Simulink Fluid and Controls Development Engineer will involve:

Model Based Design (MBD) development and integration of the System, including interfacing with the Control & Instrumentation (C&I), Platform Mechanical and Software work streams. In this role the jobholder shall be responsible for some or all of the following:
• Produce control model concepts, then detailed design models and test harnesses.
• Documenting the design.
• Maintain consistent communication across the AVC ‘One Team’ construct.
• Develop and harmonise processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies.
• Capture Learning From Experience (LFE).

Requirements:

• Demonstrable knowledge of the software/system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work.
• Proven ability to design control systems using Simulink and integrate into the wider system. Able to develop functional models into models of the control software.
• Competence in Mathworks tools to apply Model-based systems engineering principles, tools and techniques (primarily Simulink and its Test).
• Knowledge of Mechanical, Actuation, Control or Fluid Systems Engineering, preferably in a marine or aerospace application, or in a similar engineering or technology focussed industry.
• Capable in Microsoft Office packages and an ability to develop competence with more specialist toolsets as necessary.
• Ability to apply previous learning and experience to offer guidance, support and coaching to others.
• Ability to effectively research system design data and apply to complex problems.
• Excellent communication skills to support interfaces across a number of functional work streams as well as customers and stakeholders at other BAE sites including Barrow and Rochester.
• Flexibility is required, with some on site working and travel between sites may be required.

Additional information:
Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the projects involved, all candidates must be capable of gaining a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level. If you are not currently SC cleared the client will sponsor a new application and you can start once the clearance is granted.
