We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a driven and ambitious Senior Accountant to join their hybrid-working team based in Gateshead. This is a pivotal role supporting the finance function across multiple business areas. The successful candidate will take ownership of management accounts and provide analytical insights to support strategic growth, working closely with the existing finance lead and wider office team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present monthly management accounts with insightful variance analysis
  • Fully reconcile all balance sheet and control accounts
  • Produce financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow
  • Manage VAT returns and reconciliations
  • Oversee bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, supplier payments, and credit control
  • Build real-time margin reporting by customer, supplier, and product line
  • Develop forecasting models for revenue, supplier costs, and cash flow
  • Identify underperforming customers and recommend margin improvements
  • Automate and improve management reporting using Microsoft Dynamics, Power BI, and Excel
  • Deliver management accounts with proactive commentary
  • Support directors with strategic planning, financial modelling, and business cases

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified or part-qualified (ACCA / CIMA / ACA) or strong qualified-by-experience background
  • Proven experience in management accounting with a strong analytical mindset
  • Ability to move beyond processing, you can turn numbers into insight and recommendations
  • Excellent Excel skills, ideally with experience in reporting tools (Power BI a bonus)
  • Comfortable building forecasts and financial models
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar systems is a strong advantage
  • Great communicator - you’ll work closely with directors and operations to drive decisions
