Red Sky Personnel is recruiting on behalf of a specialist engineering firm delivering cutting-edge solutions across critical infrastructure and data centre environments. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team in Newcastle.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the design and development of high-resilience mechanical systems in some of the most demanding and technically advanced environments in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Development
- Lead the design of close-control cooling (CRAC/CRAH), chilled water systems, DX cooling, ventilation, and energy-efficient solutions.
- Produce mechanical designs from concept to detailed stages (RIBA 2-5).
- Ensure designs meet UK Building Regs and standards including CIBSE, ASHRAE, and BSRIA.
- Focus on energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability.
Site Surveys & Assessments
- Conduct detailed mechanical surveys and assess system performance.
- Identify inefficiencies, single points of failure, and recommend system upgrades.
- Contribute to refurbishment scoping and technical feasibility reviews.
Analysis & Reporting
- Produce technical reports, energy models, and feasibility studies.
- Deliver Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and carbon impact assessments.
- Recommend carbon reduction and energy-saving strategies.
Collaboration & Project Support
- Coordinate with electrical and CSA teams for integrated solutions.
- Support tender designs, supplier due diligence, and technical vetting.
- Deliver construction-ready Stage 4 & 5 design packages.
- Provide on-site technical input and commissioning support as required.
Innovation & Standards
- Stay current with low-carbon technologies and best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in design quality and project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and maintain detailed documentation.
Requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
- Proven experience in critical environments such as data centres or large M&E infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, and DX systems.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modelling tools like IESVE.
- Excellent technical writing, analysis, and reporting skills.
- Understanding of commissioning, lifecycle costing, and carbon analysis.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
