Leader Education are recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision in Gateshead.

This role is supporting pupils aged 5-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.

This school provides a safe, supportive environment for students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education, with a strong focus on reintegration wherever possible.

The goal is to help young people develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive in a mainstream setting when they are ready.

Previous experience is necessary.

The normal working pattern is Monday-Friday 8:30 until 16:30 and is a long-term position.

The successful Teaching Assistant will have:

  • A current DBS that is on the update system, or a willingness to obtain one
  • Previous experience with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
  • The ability to implement de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques
  • Empathy, patience and understanding when supporting pupils with complex needs
  • The expertise to support teachers in the classroom and assist with lesson preparation
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with pupils, colleagues, parents and other professionals
  • Adaptability and initiative to accommodate for various learning type and abilities
  • High expectations and aspirations for young people and themselves
