Gateshead Council's Children's Fostering Team is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to join our team. We are committed to providing high-quality, person-centered support to children in care and their foster families, ensuring they receive the care and resources they need to thrive.

About the Role:

As a Social Worker in our Children's Fostering Team, you will play a vital role in supporting children in care and their foster families. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments: You will assess the needs of children and their foster families, identifying areas of risk, strengths, and resources.
  • Developing and implementing individualised care plans: You will work with children, foster families, and other professionals to develop tailored care plans, setting out clear goals and strategies to address identified needs and ensure the child's safety.
  • Providing support and guidance: You will offer practical support and guidance to children, foster families, and other professionals involved in the child's care.
  • Advocating for children's needs: You will champion the needs and rights of children in care, ensuring their voices are heard and their wishes are considered in decision-making.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records: You will adhere to relevant legislation and policies, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to support the care planning process.
  • Building strong relationships with foster families: You will work closely with foster families, providing support and guidance, and promoting positive relationships between foster carers and children in care.

Who we're looking for:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Social Worker with a strong understanding of the needs of children in care and their families.

You will have:

  • A recognised social work qualification (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, BSC Social Work)
  • A valid Social Work England registration
  • Experience in working with children in care, including experience in care planning and reviews.
  • Experience in working with foster families is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse individuals.
  • A deep understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and safeguarding procedures.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children.
