Our OEM Client based in Gaydon, is searching for a Test Kitting Engineerto join their team, Inside IR35. This is a contract up until 31st March 2026.

Umbrella Pay Rate: £27.03 per hour.

Duties:

  • The Test Kitting Engineer will be responsible for owning and managing the Bill of Materials (BoM) for Units Under Test (UUT) across Batteries, EDU, and Engine Test environments.
  • This includes ensuring that all kits are complete, accurate, and delivered on time to support scheduled test activities.
  • The role involves co-ordinating the procurement and logistics of components, including ordering, tracking, and expediting parts through internal systems and external suppliers to meet critical deadlines.
  • The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand specific test requirements and translate them into actionable kitting plans, ensuring all necessary components, tools, and documentation are prepared and available.
  • In addition to following established kitting processes, the role requires a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements that enhances efficiency and reliability.
  • Regular performance updates, including weekly reports on kit readiness and delivery status, will be provided to the Central Planning Team.
  • The engineer will also be expected to undertake any other work as directed by their Line Manager in connection with their role.

  • Test Operations Team (Batteries, EDU, Engine).
  • Central Planning Team Procurement and Logistics Engineering Design Teams.
  • Stores and Inventory Management.

Essential Technical Skills:

  • Experience in managing end-to-end test kitting processes within Engineering or Automotive testing environments.
  • Strong understanding of powertrain systems, including Batteries, Electronic Drive Units (EDU), and Internal Combustion Engines (ICE).
  • Familiarity with Bill of Materials (BoM) creation, maintenance, and delivery in support of test operations.
  • Experience working with Inventory Management Systems and Procurement Tools to source and track components.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and other data handling tools to manage kit lists and reporting.

Essential Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and proactively, taking full ownership and responsibility for delivering test kits on time and to specification.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a strong focus on team success and cross-functional co-ordination.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with suppliers, engineers, and Internal Stakeholders.
  • Good influencing and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving delays or component issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to support engineering programs with a proven track record of delivering components and build support in a test environment.
  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Desirable Technical Skills:

  • Experience supporting Powertrain testing or similar simulation-based environments.
  • Familiarity with Automotive Testing Instrumentation, Calibration, and Setup Procedures.

Desirable Soft Skills:

  • Ability to challenge existing processes constructively and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary teams with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.

Education Required:

  • Educated to a relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification.

 Desirable Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering.
