We are seeking a caring, skilled and proactive Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 2 pupil in our welcoming mainstream primary school in Gillingham. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team dedicated to creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment for all children.
About the Role
You will:
- Provide tailored 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with autism, helping them to access learning and thrive socially and emotionally
- Use autism-informed strategies to scaffold communication, emotional regulation and independence
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals to follow personalised support plans
- Promote a positive, calm and structured environment where the pupil can succeed
- Contribute to wider classroom activities as needed
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in supporting children with autism (school-based experience preferred)
- Patient, compassionate and able to build trusting relationships
- Knowledgeable about sensory needs, communication approaches and regulation strategies
- Able to use initiative as well as work well within a team
- Committed to inclusive practice and helping children achieve their potential
