Estimator – Civil Engineering
Location: Glasgow
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Our client, a highly regarded civil engineering contractor, is looking to appoint a permanent Estimator based in Glasgow to support the delivery of major infrastructure and energy projects across Scotland. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute meaningfully to complex civil engineering solutions at the forefront of the industry.

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates from first principles, assessing both project requirements and associated risks. Working closely with senior management, you will play a vital role in shaping successful bids and securing future work.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and control the registration and administration of tender documentation
  • Engage with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to secure competitive, best-value pricing
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities at the tender stage
  • Lead the estimating process from initial enquiry through to final submission
  • Prepare detailed cost plans and evaluate contract budgets
  • Develop comprehensive packages and agree these with end clients
  • Undertake take-offs from drawings and compile cost-effective tenders from first principles
  • Analyse and price project risks effectively
  • Produce high-quality tender submission documents and estimation reports
  • Support proposal development and liaise with the contract management team
  • Manage estimating activities across multiple live and upcoming projects
  • Collaborate regularly with project managers and site teams to ensure alignment

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience in a similar estimating role
  • Proven ability to price from first principles and produce accurate cost plans
  • Significant estimating experience in the civil engineering sector
  • Strong knowledge of frameworks and negotiated contracts
  • Experience using estimating software such as Conquest and on-screen take-off tools
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
  • A methodical and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to work under pressure
