An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operational Safety Adviser to join a leading national infrastructure services provider.
Our client is a prominent force in delivering a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects in collaboration with Transport Scotland. From road maintenance and bridge repairs to complex geotechnical and structural maintenance schemes, they are committed to excellence in asset management, winter maintenance, and incident response across Scotland’s strategic road network.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient delivery of services across a range of operational environments, ensuring adherence to best practice in health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) standards.
This is a key role in fostering a positive safety culture, supporting incident investigations, conducting audits and inspections, and equipping operational teams with clear, practical guidance on all aspects of safety compliance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. HSEQ Strategy & Implementation
- Understand and align with corporate and business unit HSEQ strategies
- Support operational teams in implementing the organisation’s safety framework and procedures
2. Professional Standards & Communication
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practice
- Prepare and issue safety briefings and operational procedures
3. Incident & Accident Investigation
- Support local investigations using root cause analysis techniques
- Assist teams in developing and implementing effective preventative actions
4. Learning & Development
- Provide expert advice on company safety policies and systems
- Support teams in the use and application of safety management systems on site
5. Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and behavioural observations
- Evaluate safety data to identify trends and support improvement planning
- Assist with risk assessments and recommend risk reduction measures
- Ensure alignment with audit and inspection schedules across the business unit
Experience & Skills Required
- Demonstrable experience in supporting operational teams within a safety advisory role
- Strong understanding of risk management processes and incident investigation techniques
- Proficient in data analysis to develop and implement effective improvement plans
- Ability to drive a sustainable step-change in HSEQ culture, capability, and performance
- Collaborative approach with experience working alongside subject matter experts and site teams
- Sound knowledge of safety management systems and digital reporting platforms
- Proven ability to lead cultural change and embed safety initiatives
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High-quality written communication, including reports, emails, and presentations
- NEBOSH qualification is essential
- Full UK driving licence required
