Astute's Power Team is partnering with a Leading EPCM Contractor within the Energy Sector. We are currently recruiting for a Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join their Waste to Energy project based near Glasgow.

The Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer position comes with a day rate from 550.00 to 650.00 per day outside of IR35.

Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:


  • Lead and coordinate all electrical commissioning activities across the project, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution.

  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules in alignment with the overall project commissioning strategy.

  • Supervise and oversee electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning works, including LV/MV/HV systems, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, UPS, and control systems.

  • Manage and coordinate interfaces between electrical systems and other process areas, including boiler, steam turbine, flue gas treatment (FGT), crane systems, and DNO connection.

  • Collaborate with the respective mechanical, process, and control leads to ensure integrated and sequential commissioning of all systems.

  • Ensure all commissioning documentation, ITPs, FAT/SAT reports, and test packs are properly prepared, executed, and signed off.

  • Lead troubleshooting, defect resolution, and energization activities for electrical systems and assist in plant handover to operations.

  • Review vendor and subcontractor commissioning documentation and ensure compliance with project and regulatory standards.
  • Support safety reviews, LOTO procedures, and energization permits in coordination with HSE and operations teams.
  • Provide regular progress reports and interface updates to the Commissioning Manager and Project Management Team.

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Proven track record in electrical commissioning on large-scale EPC or EPCM energy or process projects (preferably Waste-to-Energy, CCGT, or Biomass).

  • Strong understanding of high-voltage systems, protection relays, and control systems integration.

  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and managing contractor and vendor interfaces.

  • Familiarity with DNO interface and grid energization requirements.

  • Excellent knowledge of commissioning procedures, testing methodologies, and electrical safety standards.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
