Gardener/Groundsman Job

Greycoat Lumley’s client, a Couple, are seeking a Gardener/Groundsman for their privately owned small estate in Stirlingshire.

The role will be to ensure the smooth running of the gardens, grounds and main house of the estate, ensuring all facilities are maintained and developed to a high standard.

There is also a fulltime Handyman whose primary role is maintaining the house, Biomass, grass cutting and general maintenance of the grounds, rental properties etc. There are robot lawn mowers and relevant machinery.

Duties will include:

  • Developing the walled garden in such a manner to make it low maintenance. With a simple orchard, and also a fruit cage.
  • Utilising the greenhouse including caring for the vine, and other plants, adding other vegetables and developing house plants for display in the main house in season.
  • Maintaining and developing the whole grounds of the property
  • Maintain and improve the condition of the estate and its properties
  • Developing the exotic rhodendrums, such that younger plants can be developed
  • Practical use of pesticides acceptable
  • Vermin Control, including moles
  • Maintain Ponds
  • The 'walks’ through the woods are to be maintained and enhanced, and over the years the fallen trees cleared up and the forestry plan implemented. This role will be shared with the Handyman
  • Showing great flexibility to help the owners in their overall goals and life
  • Care for cat and hens when the owners are away
  • Some handyman duties to cover when not available

Skills and experience

  • Horticultural knowledge
  • Practical with a can-do and flexible approach
  • Attention to detail
  • Proactive with excellent timekeeping
  • Chainsaw certificate
  • Happy to assist with dressing the property and gardens for events etc.

Full driving license is essential

This is a live-out role - no accommodation is provided

Hours: Average of 40 hours per week, seasonally flexible, and sometimes dependent on requirements for family and guests (some evenings and weekend required).

Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 GPA depending on Experience
