Payroll AssistantFinnieston£25,000 - £30,000

Full-time | Office-based with flexibility after training

Are you looking to build a career in payroll within a friendly, supportive accountancy practice? We're recruiting on behalf of a growing, independent firm for a Payroll Assistant to support its expanding client base.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with some payroll experience-ideally from a practice background-to join a close-knit team and develop into a senior role over time.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive salary (based on experience)
  • Hybrid/Flexible opportunities after probation
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Gym membership
  • Paid parking
  • Salary sacrifice car scheme
  • Flexible working hours: core hours 9-5 (35-hour week), flexible between 8-6
  • 1-hour lunch break

About the Role

You'll be joining a small payroll team currently run by two experienced seniors, who are at full capacity due to growth. You'll start by assisting with the smooth running of approximately 100 payrolls for a wide variety of clients, including company directors and small businesses. Many of these are straightforward payrolls, but due to National Insurance liabilities, they must be run individually. Responsibilities will also include pension submissions and ensuring full compliance.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Processing 70-80 weekly payrolls and a number of monthly payrolls
  • Managing pension submissions and NI liabilities
  • Communicating with clients directly to tailor payroll processes
  • Building experience with recurring client accounts
  • Supporting the payroll seniors and gradually taking ownership of responsibilities

As you grow in confidence and capability, there will be clear progression to a senior-level payroll position.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Confident, proactive, and not afraid to ask questions
  • A strong communicator with a professional but approachable manner
  • Comfortable dealing directly with clients
  • A team player who's happy to get stuck in
  • Down-to-earth and adaptable - this is a relaxed, no-drama kind of office

Experience in a payroll role is essential, and if that's within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau, even better!

The Working Environment

  • Relaxed, professional office - sometimes quiet, always friendly
  • Core office day is Tuesday, with 1 WFH day and 2 floating days per month available after initial training
  • No audit work - this is purely accounting and payroll
  • Led by supportive managers who value growth and contribution

If you're looking to join a practice that invests in its people, supports development, and offers genuine work-life flexibility, we'd love to hear from you.
