Our client, a leading UK multi-disciplinary engineering specialist, is looking for a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to join their team on a permanent basis in Scotland. You'll be instrumental in leading the successful delivery of complex and high-profile civil engineering projects, with a significant focus on large-scale rail infrastructure.



Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Take full ownership of projects from inception to completion, managing all phases including planning, execution, and closeout. Lead multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, site staff, and subcontractors to ensure project goals are met.

  • Commercial & Financial Management: Manage project budgets, forecasts, and costs to ensure profitability and commercial performance. Oversee the procurement process, negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers, and manage contracts (e.g., NEC forms of contract).

  • Health, Safety & Quality: Uphold and enforce the highest standards of health and safety, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with all regulations. Implement robust quality assurance procedures to deliver work to the required specifications and industry standards.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. Foster strong, collaborative relationships and provide regular, clear progress reports.

  • Programming & Risk Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules and programmes. Proactively identify and mitigate risks, developing contingency plans to ensure a smooth and timely delivery.

  • Mentorship & Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, including Sub Agents and Site Engineers, supporting their professional development.



Candidate Requirements

  • Education: A degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Experience: Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering civil engineering projects. Extensive experience in the rail sector is highly desirable.

  • Technical Skills: A solid understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methodologies. Knowledge of rail systems, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., Network Rail standards) is essential.

  • Professionalism: A project management qualification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2) and a valid CSCS card are preferred. A PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification would be a significant advantage.

  • Leadership: Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills. The ability to inspire a team and manage complex stakeholder relationships is crucial.
