Job Description

Job Title: Technical Machine Operator
Reports To: Department Team Leader



Role Purpose:

To operate, monitor, and maintain automated production equipment to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality output of products in line with company standards and production targets.



Key Responsibilities:



Machine Operation & Monitoring

  • Operate automated bagging and packing lines including:

    • Hoppers

    • Multi-head weighers

    • Pick-and-place systems

    • Bagging machines

    • Check weighers

    • Metal detectors

    • Carton erectors and closers

  • Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot faults, making technical adjustments to minimise downtime.

  • Perform machine product changeovers by loading programs, configuring settings, and verifying output quality.



Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete all digital forms and documentation (iPads), including:

    • Production sheets

    • Metal check sheets

    • Traceability records

  • Ensure all paperwork is accurate and submitted on time as per departmental SOPs.

  • Adhere to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.



Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Perform routine machine cleaning and hygiene tasks, including Kosher cleaning when required.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation across equipment and the work area.



Product Quality & Packaging

  • Ensure correct packaging materials and settings (film, date codes, labels, etc.).

  • Package, label, and palletise products according to specifications and customer requirements.



Quality & Compliance

  • Adhere to all company hygiene and housekeeping policies.

  • Ensure compliance with product quality standards and report any discrepancies immediately.

  • Monitor packaging and labelling for accuracy and completeness.



Health & Safety

  • Operate all equipment safely and responsibly.

  • Follow company and departmental health and safety procedures at all times.

  • Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses immediately to the Team Leader.



Flexibility

  • Perform machine changeovers in line with the production schedule.

  • Support additional shifts or weekend overtime during peak periods.

  • Carry out detailed handovers at the end of each shift, ensuring clear communication to the next team.



Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Suggest and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Share technical knowledge and assist in training new or less experienced colleagues.

  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives and uphold 5S standards.

  • Demonstrate adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to company values.



Measures of Success

  • Zero accidents and adherence to safe working practices.

  • Consistent achievement of production and quality targets.

  • Minimal downtime and waste levels.

  • High levels of housekeeping, documentation accuracy, and compliance.
