Astute People are working on with a market leader in the Environmental, Waste and Energy Recovery industries to recruit a Health and Safety Advisor to join their newly acquired plant in Gloucestershire.

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package including car allowance or company car.

Responsibilities and duties of the Health and Safety Advisor role Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for:


  • Providing guidance to managers and supervisors on all aspects of health, safety, and employee welfare.

  • Making sure the organisation adheres to the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all applicable regulations.

  • Carrying out health and safety audits and inspections, followed by the creation of detailed reports.

  • Looking into all accidents, incidents, potential hazards, and near-misses.

  • Creating and presenting Health & Safety training sessions for staff.

  • Overseeing and assisting managers to uphold a positive health and safety environment.

  • Communicating with external authorities including the HSE, Fire Brigade, and Police when necessary


Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally qualified with a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health (or equivalent)
  • Membership of IOSH


Personal skills The Health and Safety Advisor role would suit someone who has:

  • A background in Health and Safety gained in a heavy process or engineering environment. This can include Power Generation, Refineries, Manufacturing, FMCG, Food, Petrochemical, Recycling, Waste Management, Quarries, etc.
  • At least three years experience in a Health & Safety position
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A proactive and flexible approach with strong problem-solving skills
  • A full, valid UK driving licence
