We're looking for a proactive Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of electrical design across a range of engineered products-from early concept through to production release. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary environment and is confident designing to stringent safety and compliance standards.
The Opportunity
You'll play a key role in developing control panel designs, integrating PLC systems, and producing the documentation needed to ensure products meet UK/EU regulatory requirements. You'll collaborate closely with Mechanical Design, Compliance, and Manufacturing teams to deliver robust, manufacturable, and fully compliant solutions.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading the electrical design of packaged systems, including control panel layouts, schematic diagrams, and cable schedules.
Specifying and selecting electrical components to meet performance, safety, and compliance criteria.
Developing and integrating PLC-based control systems (programming experience beneficial but not essential).
Producing accurate electrical documentation: design calculations, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and supporting files.
Ensuring designs comply with Health & Safety, CE/UKCA, and relevant UK/EU regulations (LVD, EMC, Machinery Directive).
Supporting EMC compliance activities, including design best practice and collaboration with external test houses.
Working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
Participating in design reviews, risk assessments, verification, and validation activities.
What We're Looking For
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
Proven experience in control panel design for industrial or commercial applications.
Working knowledge of PLC-based systems (e.g. Siemens, Schneider, or similar).
Strong understanding of electrical design principles, Health & Safety requirements, and regulatory compliance.
Familiarity with applicable standards and directives, including:
Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
EMC Directive
Machinery Directive
BS EN (phone number removed)
Experience supporting EMC-compliant design and associated test documentation.
Competence with CAD/schematic design tools (e.g. SolidWorks Electrical or similar).
Excellent attention to detail and strong documentation and communication skills.
