Graduate Teaching Assistant - Core Subjects (Maths, English, Science)

Monarch Education is currently recruiting Graduate Teaching Assistants to support a specialist SEMH secondary school in Gloucester. This is a rewarding opportunity for recent graduates with strong academic backgrounds in Mathematics, English, or Science who are passionate about inclusive education and keen to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs.



About the Role:

As a Graduate TA in an SEMH setting, you will:

  • Support students in KS3 and KS4 across core subjects, helping to raise attainment and engagement in a nurturing and trauma-informed environment.
  • Deliver small group interventions and one-to-one academic support tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, classroom activities, and behaviour regulation strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with students to foster trust, resilience, and self-esteem.
  • Gain valuable experience for a future career in teaching, psychology, youth work, or therapeutic education.


The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A degree in Maths, English, Science, or a closely related subject.
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to behaviour and emotional support.
  • Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, youth work, or SEN/SEMH settings (desirable but not essential).
