I'm hiring a Commercial Buyer on behalf of a well-established and innovative manufacturer based in Gloucester. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking procurement team where you'll manage end-to-end purchasing activities and contribute directly to business performance.
In this role, you’ll take the lead on sourcing and supplier management, supporting both operational continuity and strategic procurement initiatives. You'll play a key part in ensuring a resilient and cost-effective supply chain, with opportunities to influence supplier relationships and purchasing decisions at a senior level.

The Role:
- Independently manage the sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of materials, services, and components.
- Develop and sustain relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and on-time delivery.
- Contribute to product development projects by identifying and qualifying new suppliers.
- Evaluate supplier performance, ensuring contractual terms are upheld and business expectations met.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, ensuring continuity of supply.
- Support the management of supplier agreements, contracts, and procurement compliance.
- Analyse procurement data to identify cost-saving opportunities and report on key metrics such as Purchase Price Variance.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure audit-ready documentation.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to align procurement with business objectives.
- Continuously improve procurement practices through process optimisation and adoption of best-in-class tools.
The Person:
- Proven background in procurement or buying (minimum 3 years), ideally in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Confident working independently with solid decision-making ability.
- Proficient with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
- Analytical, organised, and detail-focused.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A self-starter with a collaborative mindset and willingness to adapt to change.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to visit suppliers as required.
Desirable:
- Exposure to lean manufacturing or strategic sourcing practices.
- Understanding of environmental and regulatory impacts on procurement.
