Horticulture Production Manager

East Yorkshire

36,000 - 39,000 DOE | Permanent

Are you a hands-on Production Supervisor who understands seasonal work and enjoys leading teams on the ground?

This is an opportunity to join a well-established fresh produce business supplying high-quality products into a fast-moving market. The business operates year-round, with clear peak and off-peak seasons, and is now looking to strengthen its management team with a people-focused Production Supervisor.

The Business

You'll be joining a stable, well-organised fresh produce operation with a strong customer base and a long-term outlook. The business prides itself on doing things properly - producing quality products, running efficient operations, and treating people fairly.

The Role

As Production Supervisor, your primary responsibility is the workforce.

You'll work closely alongside the Grower Manager, acting as their support and stepping into their role one day per week and during holidays. This is not a highly technical role - it's about organisation, leadership, and getting the best out of people.

You'll be managing:

  • A core team of around 10 staff, increasing to 15+ during peak season
  • Teams working across greenhouse production, dispatch and logistics
  • 3-4 forklift drivers, sewing staff, dispatch operatives and flexible team members

You'll be on your feet for around 80% of the day, walking the site, engaging with staff, solving problems, and keeping production flowing efficiently.

Working Pattern

This role follows a seasonal working pattern, which is essential to understand before applying.

  • 6 days per week, alternating weekends with the Grower Manager
  • Peak season hours: 6:00am - 4:00pm
  • Winter hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm
  • Shorter days at weekends (often finishing by early afternoon if production is on track)
  • Early finish on Fridays
  • Annual hours approx. 2,200 (39-54 hours per week depending on season)

The business closes over Christmas (7-10 days taken as annual leave). Holidays between April and August are limited but can be discussed flexibly.

About You

This role suits someone who:

  • Comes from a production, warehouse, FMCG or horticultural environment
  • Understands seasonal work patterns and longer weeks during peak periods
  • Is a confident, visible leader who leads from the front
  • Has strong organisational skills and a methodical approach
  • Is motivated, reliable, and enjoys responsibility
  • Is comfortable managing a diverse workforce

Helpful but not essential:

  • Health & Safety background (IOSH / NEBOSH)
  • First Aid qualification
  • Basic computer skills

What's on Offer

  • Competitive hourly rate (with progression to salary once proven)
  • Standard pension
  • Health insurance and life insurance after 2 years' service
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Real opportunity to grow and develop the role
  • A chance to step into a key management position within a stable business

Success in this role will be measured by labour efficiency, team performance, and productivity. If you're ambitious, organised, and enjoy making things work better, there is genuine scope to progress.
