Care Home Deputy Manager (Maternity Cover) – Quality, Systems and Risk Manager

Location: Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 3BE
Salary: £41,944 FTE (rising to approx. £44,000 in April 2026, subject to pay award)
Contract: Full time, Permanent – Maternity Cover Deputy Manager responsibilities until July 2026
Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours or Part-time 30 hours

Thorngate Churcher Trust is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Quality, Systems & Risk Manager, who will also take on the responsibilities of Deputy Manager during a period of maternity cover (until July 2026).

This is a key role within our respected 44-bed care home, us Churcher Court, supporting the Registered Manager to deliver exceptional, person-centred care and ensure full compliance with CQC standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Deputy Manager, or a senior care professional ready to take the next step into a leadership and quality-focused role.

We will also support and fund NVQ Level 5 for the right candidate if you are not yet fully qualified but are working towards it.

The Quality, Systems and Risk role requires you to lead the home’s quality assurance activities, ensuring continuous improvement. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading our audit programme
  • Maintaining and updating digital systems across care, medication, and building management
  • Developing KPIs, analysing trends, and reporting findings to the leadership team
  • Working closely with digital partners and Power BI providers to ensure accurate data capture
  • Supporting the review, evaluation and implementation of new systems, software and home enhancements
  • Ensuring all policies, procedures and practices meet regulatory and Trust standards

Alongside your ongoing quality responsibilities, as the Deputy Manager you will provide operational leadership during the maternity cover period, ensuring continuity of high-quality care.

Your Deputy Manager (maternity cover) duties will include:

  • Supporting the Registered Manager with day-to-day operations
  • Assisting with safeguarding alerts, CQC notifications, incidents and investigations
  • Overseeing medication management in liaison with the Assistant Manager
  • Completing audits, spot checks, competency assessments and supervisions
  • Providing occasional weekend and on-call cover as part of the management rota
  • Leading staff induction, supervision, competency training and line management
  • Supporting recruitment, staffing and performance management
  • Taking on the leadership responsibilities of the current Deputy Manager during maternity leave
  • Professional & Leadership Responsibilities

In order to be successful in this role you must have / be:

  • Ability and experience with supervising / managing staff and prioritising, managing and completing a variety of tasks. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with staff, residents, families and external partners.
  • Proven experience supervising or managing staff in a care setting
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding, DoLS, CQC compliance and health & safety
  • Strong digital skills, including experience with electronic care and medication systems
  • Able to work flexibly, including some weekend and on-call duties

It would be great if you had:

  • NVQ Level 5 in Health & Social Care (or working towards)
  • Higher-level management or health and social care qualifications
