We are seeking a maintenance electrician with a bias towards PLC’s and AC / DC motor drive systems, to join our cranes electrical team at Teesside. You will be working as part of a problem-solving engineering team who are responsible for the preventative maintenance / inspection, fault-finding and repair of the port’s crane assets.

These assets are predominantly; mobile harbour cranes, rubber tyred gantry cranes and ship-to-shore container cranes, all of which have a wide variety of power supplies, electrical components and network topologies.

This role also includes the requirement to respond to breakdowns with the technical knowledge to diagnose and rectify faults, safely and efficiently with minimal impact to port operations.

Ability & Experience:

  • The ability to fault find and perform repairs on the following industrial communication networks:
    • Can-bus
    • ASi-bus
    • Profibus / Profinet
    • Fibre optics
    • IP networks
  • A high level of knowledge on PLC hardware and software systems, including but not limited to:
    • Siemens Step5/Step7
    • CoDeSys
  • Experience of working with both AC and DC motor drive systems such as:
    • Siemens SIMOREG, SINAMICS, Masterdrive
    • Danfoss FC302
    • ABB ACS880
  • Good electrical knowledge in the following areas:  
    • Safe isolation procedures and safe working practices.
    • Switching devices including relays, contactors, circuit breakers and proximity switches.
    • Electromechanical devices such as solenoids, thrusters and actuators.
    • Electric motors and drivetrains, both AC and DC up to 400kW.
    • Power electronics converters such as inverters and rectifiers.
    • Motor control methods: soft start, direct online, variable speed drives, resistance banks and thyristors.
    • Switching devices including relays, contactors, circuit breakers and proximity switches.

Knowledge, Attitude, Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in heavy industry following completion of a formal technical apprenticeship. (Essential)
  • Qualified to ONC / Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum - HNC/HND or above would be preferred. (Essential)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and interpersonal skills. (Essential)
  • Good team worker (Essential)

Physical Demands:

  • Working outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable with working at height.
