Our client, a well established company, are looking to recruit a Fleet Superintendent.

Job Overview

The Fleet Superintendent ensures that all department assets are routinely maintained in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines, company policies, and regulations. This role involves taking lead responsibility for managing Fleet Vehicles (EVs, LCVs, ATVs, conventional vans), Trailers, and Equipment (MEWPs) across the responsible sites. The superintendent is also accountable for managing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) aspects within the department. Additionally, the superintendent will oversee the planning and control of Operating Expenditures (OPEX) and Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) related to Fleet operations.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure all duties are completed in line with RAMS and Company Health & Safety policy – be active in compiling or reviewing Risk Assessments.

Assist management in overseeing the department’s daily operations.

Ensure effective and efficient use of an asset management system.

Proactively monitor team performance: evaluate training needs, labour levels, and qualification opportunities; address underperformance as necessary.

Participate in assigned long-term preventative maintenance programmes and projects.

Co-ordinate engineering team activities, providing clear, concise direction to maximise contribution (e.g. Continuous Improvement) and ensure delivery of the maintenance plan.

Liaise with the Engineering Manager and, as required, the Operations management team to prioritise both reactive and planned maintenance, ensuring service and repair levels are maintained.

Conduct regular communication events with the engineering team, and one-on-one when required.

Ensure the PM (Preventative Maintenance) schedule is completed, communicate any issues, and take ownership of closing out actions on time and in full.

Liaise with suppliers to ensure delivery of quality equipment/components that are cost-effective.

Manage and promote positive relations with customers and employees.

Motivate and drive the team towards Continuous Improvement and engineering excellence.

Ensure all servicing and repairs comply with current legislation and Company procedures.

Maintain effective, efficient workshop operations with good housekeeping at all times.

Generate reports on Fleet performance, maintenance activities, and HSE compliance.

Qualifications

HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Fleet Management Essentials – O Licence Awareness (desired).

Level 3 Diploma in Commercial Fleet Vehicle Management (desired).

Other fleet management qualifications are advised.

IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) Certification (desired).

Skills

Technical proficiency in Fleet maintenance and repair.

Strong organisational and planning skills.

Proficiency in using maintenance management software.

Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Financial acumen and experience in budget planning and control.

Proven experience in Fleet management and maintenance.

Strong understanding of OEM guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

Excellent knowledge of HSE management practices.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to respond promptly to breakdowns and defects.

Effective communication and record-keeping abilities.

Analytical skills to interrogate, analyse, and evaluate previous repair information.

Working Conditions

Primarily site-based, with travel between responsible sites as required.

May involve working in varying environmental conditions and occasional extended hours to address urgent issues.
