Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant – Gravesend

We are a small accountancy practice based in Gravesend, specialising in the construction sector. We are looking for a Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with current regulations.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and control account management to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation of accounts to trial balance and support senior accountants.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and HMRC regarding financial matters.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including answering incoming calls and redirecting messages as necessary.
  • Provide general support for the day-to-day operations of the business.
  • Carry out ad hoc administrative duties as needed.

Skills & Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong knowledge of VAT regulations, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
  • Experience with Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Payroll experience (an advantage but not essential).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Great organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence, motivation, and exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
