Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant – Gravesend
We are a small accountancy practice based in Gravesend, specialising in the construction sector. We are looking for a Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with current regulations.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and control account management to ensure financial accuracy.
- Assist in the preparation of accounts to trial balance and support senior accountants.
- Communicate effectively with clients and HMRC regarding financial matters.
- Handle administrative tasks, including answering incoming calls and redirecting messages as necessary.
- Provide general support for the day-to-day operations of the business.
- Carry out ad hoc administrative duties as needed.
Skills & Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong knowledge of VAT regulations, Making Tax Digital (MTD), and the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
- Experience with Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks accounting software.
- Payroll experience (an advantage but not essential).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Great organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence, motivation, and exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
