Senior/Team lead/Electronics Field Engineer required to work in Gravesend.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Ensure the continuous functionality of all navigation systems sensors including but not limited to radar transceivers, antenna and associated gearboxes, radios, AIS base stations, microwave links, CCTV, warning lights, tide gauges and meteorological sensors to enable the port to operate safely.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults, including complex technical issues, across the full range of sensors in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure actions taken are logged, root causes are investigated and understood, and future requirements are captured. Ensure information is shared appropriately and customers or stakeholders are kept updated.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain equipment relating to the navigation systems sensor estate.
  • Research and specify replacement equipment and assist with the procurement and assessment of new equipment, services and/or systems.
  • Create and update required safety documentation such as risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments etc
  • Act as team leader to colleagues (person in charge) and supervise contractors during on-site works ensuring work is completed in compliance with HSE regulations.
  • Support compliance with GDPR and cyber security principles in line with the NIS directive.
  • Undertake training and development to maintain specialism in in-field sensors and act as a specialist in multiple areas of the navigation systems' sensor estate.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Degree in an electronic engineering or related discipline & a minimum 5 years' hands on experience in a comparable role or setting.
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding and application of related H&S regulations eg, PUWER, LOLER, Working at Height, COSHH.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the risks and relevant mitigations associated with the work of the team eg, WaH, EMF and other hazards.
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of relevant cyber security principles as a minimum Cyber Essentials.
  • Full driving licence.

Skills required:

  • Technically proficient with in depth knowledge and thorough understanding of the design and repair of electrical, electronic, and computer-based systems, analogue and digital telecommunications systems, RADAR, radio and microwave engineering.
  • Suitable and sufficient IP networking and IT skills to configure and maintain computer-based aspects of the sensor estate.
  • Pass medical evaluation and maintain fitness levels to be able to fulfil the job role and to do so safely.
  • Logical and methodical diagnostic approach to faults and problems.
  • Safety conscious and willing to develop and contribute to H&S practices within the team.
  • Assertive and able to effectively challenge and supervise colleagues and contractors.
  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility including out of hours working and forming part of an on-call rota for evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

  • You must also like heights as the team regularly work at height and full training and support is provided to enable you to do this safely and see some great views.
