Mechanical & Construction Engineer - 12 Month Assignment, Grays, Essex
A renowned global consumer goods company, with a history spanning over 180 years, originating as a soap and candle business, seeks a Mechanical & Construction Engineer. Job Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical guidance for all construction and mechanical aspects of projects, from initial design to final commissioning. This includes design, procurement, installation oversight, final inspection, and validation.
- Develop project scopes and cost estimates for capital projects, while also supporting larger capital projects within the broader project team.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to guarantee compliance with all requirements.
- Uphold Safety, Quality & Compliance by ensuring all activities adhere to relevant safety regulations and standards (e.g., IEC, OSHA), and proactively identify and address potential safety risks.
- Prepare and submit scope of work inquiries to the purchasing department.
- Conduct technical Best Value Option Analysis to inform supplier selection from multiple bids.
- Lead and actively participate in design review meetings.
- Manage mechanical construction activities, including preparing work permits and supervising for safety and quality.
- Conduct thorough safety briefings.
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely material delivery and adherence to project schedules.
- Develop and utilize checklists to verify the quality, functionality, and operational status of newly installed equipment, performing final checks to confirm adherence to design specifications.
- Maintain a checklist of any post start-up issues and ensure their prompt resolution.
Qualifications:
- Engineering degree or NVQ qualification in an engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in project/construction management within a Process or FMCG environment.
- Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering.
- ATEX qualification or demonstrable experience working in ATEX environments.
- Construction design and drawing regulation qualification.
- Thorough understanding of European & UK welding standards (ASME & NBIC) relevant to fabrication and construction.
- Extensive on-site engineering experience in design and construction within a Surfactant Making Plant or the Chemical Industry.
- Proven ability to produce technical mechanical drawings in AutoCAD, including General Arrangements, Isometrics, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, and 3D models for design and installation purposes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective teamwork across the site.
- Competent project planning abilities.
- Demonstrated self-motivation, ability to work effectively under pressure, and adaptability to changing priorities.
Hours:
- 07:00 to 15:00, Monday to Friday, with a requirement for flexibility.
Pay:
- £24.00 to £33.65 per hour.
