Interim Communications Officer

We are supporting an Essex based council in recruiting a Communications Officer to join their dynamic and fast-paced team at a pivotal time in the organisation’s transformation journey. With devolution on the horizon and a renewed corporate vision, this is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful change and make a real impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities of the Interim Communications Officer:

  • Support the implementation of the Council’s Communications Strategy, both internally and externally
  • Develop and deliver targeted campaigns that reflect the Council’s values, using insights and resident data to shape messaging
  • Manage reactive media enquiries, press releases, and briefings, often at pace
  • Lead on the use of digital channels and social media, embedding a digital-first approach
  • Ensure consistent application of the Council’s corporate identity across all communications
  • Assist in managing crisis communications and support out-of-hours media requirements when needed
  • Contribute to income generation opportunities such as campaign sponsorships and filming location promotion

Skills, experience and knowledge required of the Interim Communications Officer:

  • Previous and recent experience in a local government communications team is essential
  • A confident communicator who can operate effectively in a political environment
  • Skilled inwriting, editing, and content creation across multiple channels
