The Role

A confident and driven systems safety engineer is required to develop and conduct systems safety activities support to a value stream, to report those component level safety analysis to the P-AIC Safety Manager and provide input to the systems level hazard analysis and design SECR.

Conduct Software Hazard Analysis (SwHA) to assess functional failures to the sub-system and also input to new features.

To derive safety requirements from the SwHA and provide adequate definitions of done to features and user stories to support the value stream teams (design and V&V) to implement requirements and ensure compliance to software safety standards.

To assist in the development and update of the Part 2 Safety and Environmental Case Report (SECR) through (planning increments) PIs, including compliance assessments.

To prepare for and chair sub-system level Hazard Working Groups within Value Stream.

Attend Safety Panels and Integration Working Groups as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or contribute to documentation as required.
  • Lead or contribute to safety analysis.
  • Interpret results of testing activities as satisfying safety requirments.
  • Promote best practice, mentor colleagues, and identify continuous improvement ideas and presentation of approaches to internal and external colleagues for awareness.
  • Fully engage in the agile development approach, upskilling in SAFe practices where necessary (training can be provided).
  • Support and engage with security, safety and compliance activities, incorporating derived requirements into evolution of the design through life.
  • Support estimation and the change control processes as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Systems safety practitioner.
  • Software Safety experience.
  • Agile safety experience.
  • SECR and Hazard Log development.
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards and their application (ED-153, ED-215 and ED-76a).
  • Confident in stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Chairing Safety Working Groups.

Desirable Skills

  • Prior experience with the standards ED-153, ED-215 and ED-76a.
  • Preferred Land, ISTAR or Air Defence background.
