Senior Packaging Designer - Guildford, Surrey
£35,000 - £40,000 plus benefits
We are excited to share this fantastic opportunity to join a highly successful global company based in Guildford. Our client is seeking a Senior Packaging Designer to take creative leadership of one of their key brands. You must be a highly skilled Packaging Designer with significant experience in the toy/youth market or FMCG sector.
Strong proficiency in logo creation and rapid development of style guides and concepts is essential. You’ll need extensive knowledge of packaging structure, a deep understanding of graphic design layouts, art direction, and expertise in current graphic design software. A thorough understanding of modern production techniques is also critical. Additionally, outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required to manage projects effectively.

Main duties:
- Proactively brainstorm and research initial concepts / designs including competitor packs
- Understand and interpret briefs from the global product design and marketing teams
- Provide written briefs for artwork, illustrations and photography and translations to external suppliers as required, always building & maintaining good working relationships
- Direct, co-ordinate and attend photo shoots (often working with child models), as agreed with Marketing
- Consult with the product designers and engineering on the features, function, costs & manufacturing issues
- Attend all relevant project meetings, be responsible for / complete pack specification documents
- Analyse all quotes to confirm content and conclude all possible value engineering solutions
- Negotiate competitive costs for all outsourced artwork, mock-ups, pack construction, illustrations, translations and photography
- Support process on approval of proofs / layouts / final print runs
- Co-ordinate and analyse information between the global offices,
- Work with and build strong relationships with colleagues, suppliers and licensors
- Occasional international travel and off-site meetings
- Effectively plan timelines with regards to projects using the milestone and planning documents provided
- Provide pack mock-ups for previews / sample selections / listings etc as and when required
- Proactively drive new initiatives / procedures within the department
- Share knowledge with other team members both within and outside of our department
- Guide and support any direct reports and other team members with day-to-day workload and in meetings where necessary, setting a good example at all times
- Be seen as a respected source of advice / guidance to other team members, contributing positively to team / company morale & spirit
