Job description:

Temporary Social Worker - Family Safeguarding (Children's Services)

Location: Surrey
Rate: 42 per hour
Contract Type: Temporary (Full-time)
Duration: 3-6 months

Surrey County Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join our Family Safeguarding Teams on a temporary basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a strengths-based, relationship-focused model that supports families to make positive changes and keep children safely at home.

About the Role:

You will provide high-quality statutory social work to children and families at Tier 4 of Surrey's Effective Family Resilience model. Using motivational interviewing and SMART planning, you'll assess needs, reduce risks, and work collaboratively with families and professionals to improve outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete statutory assessments and develop outcome-focused care plans.
  • Lead child protection investigations and contribute to legal planning and proceedings.
  • Work closely with multi-agency partners to deliver integrated support.
  • Maintain accurate case records and prepare documentation for court and tribunals.
  • Participate in reflective supervision and group work programmes.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW or equivalent) and registered with Social Work England.
  • Substantial experience in statutory children's services and safeguarding.
  • Strong understanding of UK child care law, safeguarding procedures, and multi-agency working.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and planning skills.
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance and willingness to travel across Surrey.
