We are seeking a dedicated Housing Support Worker to provide intense specialist support around domestic abuse to women with complex needs, including drug/alcohol and mental health issues. This role involves working on a flexible rota basis, including regular evening and weekend work, and requires the ability to undertake regular visits to clients’ homes and other suitable meeting places.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Act as a keyworker to a small number of clients staying in safe accommodation who have complex needs, focusing primarily on domestic abuse.
  • Provide intensive, flexible support to individuals with multiple issues, including drug/alcohol and mental health issues.
  • Assess and identify needs, co-producing support plans with service users based on a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach, taking the lead coordination role where necessary.
  • Complete comprehensive risk/safety assessments and plans in line with relevant Calderdale Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Advise and assist clients in obtaining benefits, health, and social care entitlements, including attending appointments and advocating for them.
  • Assist clients in securing and moving into settled accommodation, understanding their responsibilities as tenants, and how to sustain their tenancy.
  • Work using a trauma-informed approach, prioritising the emotional safety and wellbeing of the client.
  • Liaise with the Housing Options Team to provide information necessary for determining the Council’s duties under homelessness legislation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Level 3 qualification in Social Care, Health, Housing, or other relevant fields, or proven relevant experience.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Experience working directly with adults who have experienced multiple disadvantages.
  • Experience in housing support work.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others to change behaviour.
  • This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with both Adult and Children’s Barred List Checks.
