We are currently seeking a Tenancy Sustainability Advisor to join our team in Halifax. As a Tenancy Sustainability Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting tenants at risk of losing their homes due to income-related challenges. This role focuses on delivering short-term, targeted interventions to promote tenancy sustainment and income maximisation, including support for those on starter tenancies. You will proactively advise tenants affected by welfare reforms, helping them navigate changes that may impact their ability to make rent and other tenancy-related payments.

Outline of key responsibilities for the Tenancy Sustainability Advisor...

  • Starter tenancies - provide advice to new tenants who have been identified as having little or no experience of living independently
  • Current tenants - using a risk-based approach, provide short term assistance to tenants who are ill-equipped to maintain the financial responsibilities relating to their tenancy.
  • Ensure that interventions for new and current tenants are time limited and outcome-focused, promoting self-reliance and commitment to sustaining rent payments and other tenancy related bills;
  • Make referrals and/or signpost to other Agencies and local services where more in-depth/specialist assistance is required with financial matters such as debt management, affordable loans through Credit Unions, Welfare to Work, employment and job-seeking support, Utility-switching companies
  • To acquire and maintain a full understanding of income-related and neighbourhood management policies, procedures and processes and keep abreast of the welfare reform agenda and associated impacts for our customers.
  • To acquire and maintain understanding of services in the appropriate locality who can provide complementary / additional assistance to our customers including internal and external/ Assistance for those in crisis/ at risk of abuse (complex cases only) Corporate Duties housing support services and act as a key link to build and maintain partnerships.
  • Make referrals to and coordinate assistance from other Agencies and services following income- based intervention where underlying problems are identified which require more intensive and / or longer term support eg mental health, domestic abuse, safeguarding from abuse, bereavement support, hoarding, personal care & support. This could also include referral to internal housing support services (in place in certain localities.

We are looking for someone who has...

  • A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
  • Experience advising customers on income-related matters, knowledge of best practice relating to assisting customers facing financial hardship
  • Experience working with vulnerable people and/or customers from disadvantaged background and /or complex needs
  • Effective engagement of customers including promotion of self-reliance
  • Detailed knowledge of the welfare reform agenda and wider external environment within which social housing providers operate
  • Comprehensive understanding of reasons and underlying causes relating to arrears, financial exclusion and tenancy failure
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and related agendas including domestic abuse
