Mechanical Design Engineer

A leading UK manufacturer of car transport systems is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its design team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex mechanical assemblies that are built, tested and used by some of the biggest names in the automotive industry.
You'll be involved in the full product lifecycle - from design updates and R&D to producing manufacturing drawings and visiting client sites for loading trials. This role is ideal for someone with solid CAD experience who enjoys hands-on engineering and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and modify 2D and 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
- Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs)
- Carry out stress calculations and tolerance analysis
- Support R&D and attend site visits for real-world testing and feedback
- Validate designs and ensure they meet functional, safety, and manufacturing standards
Requirements:
- HNC, Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- Proficient in 3D CAD software (Inventor preferred, SolidWorks also suitable)
- Experience with steel fabrication and mechanical assemblies
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles and design validation
- Able to work independently and manage multiple design projects
- Good communication and technical reporting skills
- Experience with trailers, hydraulics, lifting systems, or vehicle bodies
- Familiarity with FEA (Ansys)
- Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical system integration
Software & Tools Used:
- Autodesk Inventor / AutoCAD (up to 2015)
- SolidWorks
- Ansys (FEA)
- Microsoft Office Suite
