As a Switchgear Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, testing and fault-finding of LV and HV switchgear and associated power distribution equipment. The role is primarily site-based, combining hands-on technical work with direct customer interaction.
This position suits an engineer with a strong electrical background, confident working on live environments where downtime must be minimised and safety is essential.
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on LV and HV switchgear, including switchboards, distribution boards, breakers and protection devices.
- Diagnose and rectify electrical faults on power distribution systems in operational environments.
- Perform inspection, testing and verification of electrical installations in accordance with relevant standards and site procedures.
Support commissioning activities for new or modified LV and HV switchgear installations. - Assist with testing and verification of electrical interfaces to power monitoring, metering and control systems.
Experience required:
- Strong background in electrical engineering with proven experience working on LV and HV switchgear.
- Hands-on experience with LV and HV switchboards, circuit breakers, protection relays and power distribution equipment.
- Ability to safely carry out fault-finding, maintenance and testing on electrical systems.
- Relevant electrical qualifications (for example NVQ Level 3, City and Guilds, HNC or equivalent).
- Basic awareness of power monitoring, metering, instrumentation or control panels is advantageous.
