Head of Logistics – North London

Salary: £55/65k

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a successful, award winning chilled convenience foods manufacturer in North London.

Reporting to the Operations director you will be wholly responsible for the day to day running of the Logistics & Transport function.

Ensuring the customers needs are met if not exceeded.

Hands on role – you’ll need to be readily available to get involve ensuring the smooth running of the day to day function and be able to identify improvements and developments to drive this thriving business further forward.

Responsible for: Dispatch Supervisor, Delivery Drivers

 

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee the daily allocation of deliveries for each driver and liaise with all drivers on a daily basis to ensure that deliveries are carried out in an efficient manner, making sure that any shortages and extras are redelivered.
  • Lead the team of delivery drivers ensuring they are engaged, well managed and perform to the highest standards against the business set key performance indicators.
  • Investigate any complaints, service or operational failures to ensure they are understood and prevented in future. 
  • Ensure the continuous training and development of drivers in all areas of delivery, health and safety, and customer service.
  • With the support of HR, address issues such as disciplinaries, grievances, absences, and performance management, for both permanent employees and self employed drivers.
  • Ensure that all drivers wear correct uniforms and/or PPE.
  • Accountable for ensuring that the appropriate vehicle checks, fuel logs & health & safety checks have been completed by their team.
  • Lead the way in terms of best practise regarding safety and ensuring your team understands the importance of being safe in the workplace at all times. Quickly and efficiently record and report any safety incidents that may arise.
  • Understand the wider business objectives and in line with this, look for ways in which to reduce cost, improve service etc.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new team members 
  • Overall Responsibility for all aspects related to FORS (Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme).
  • Create a good working atmosphere within the team.
  • Adhere to company values, policies, standards & completing adhoc tasks as dictated by the role.
  • Transport cost control - Payroll/Labour, KPI’s, DEPT monthly/weekly budget reporting (Fuel, Maintenance, C-Charge, Fleet Insurance, 3PL Cost Control/Invoice checks
  • People Management - Driver Recruitment, bonus scheme, telematics, reduce damage, accidents investigation, insurance cost reduction.
  • Dispatch/pick & pack team management - The candidate should be able to manage the team & should have had exposure to multi order pick & pack operations. They should take ownership of the dispatch process.
  • Warehouse set up/distribution hub & spoke - Experience of sourcing, setting up a chilled satellite warehouse for onward distribution. Creating van rounds, people hire, management systems.
  • Fleet Management - Management & maintenance of all vehicles in fleet including partner relationships.
  • Trunking/Back Haul/Cross dock - Experience of setting up, planning and optimising routes.

                                                        

         Person Specification 

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience within a similar role, ideally in the FMCG industry.
  • Excellent management and communication style - encouraging, inspiring and enabling the team around you to be the very best they can be.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues and customers alike, treating others with respect, demonstrating sensitivity to diversity, and fostering positive workplace relationships. 
  • An innovative approach to leadership - being creative and implementing new ways to improve performance.
  • The ability to identify and evaluate potential risks and develop solutions.
  • Excellent working knowledge of FORS, and Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Methodical, with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • 3.5t chilled van - timed multi drop experience - Working to tight precise delivery windows.
  • CPC O-LICENSE HOLDER - up to date training and compliance.
  • LORRY PROCUREMENT - Experience of leasing & running 18t & or articulated trucks
