Interim Financial Controller (Up to 6 Months)Location: Harlow (on-site)Reports to: Group CFO / Group COODirect Reports: 4 Accounts Clerks A dynamic and hands-on Interim Financial Controller is required for a period of up to six months to oversee the finance function of a growing, fast-paced business operating in the construction and logistics sectors. This interim role has become available due to a systems implementation and business integration project which has led to the secondment of the current Financial Controller. This is an operationally focused position suitable for a highly experienced and qualified finance professional who can provide stability, leadership, and continuous improvement during a period of change. The successful candidate must have demonstrable expertise in financial reporting, controls, team management, and process development, ideally within an SME or entrepreneurial environment. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a small Finance Team, providing day-to-day support and direction.
  • Provide strong support to management and the Group CFO and COO.
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including all associated bookkeeping.
  • Maintain robust balance sheet control, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Support monthly board reporting with clear financial insights and commentary.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and cost controls.
  • Oversee payroll function ensuring accuracy and timeliness in a dynamic environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax and accounting regulations.
  • Maintain and enhance financial controls and documentation.
  • Manage the annual audit process and statutory accounts preparation.
  • Oversee corporation tax computations.
  • Responsible for implementing and developing processes within the Finance Function that dovetail with the Sale Intact implementation.
  • As required, and time permitting, lend support to the implementation and development of a new finance system.
  • Continually review and improve finance processes in line with business growth and integration needs.
Person Specification
  • Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with a strong academic background.
  • Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience, ideally within industry/commerce.
  • Proven track record as an Interim Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager.
  • Significant SME experience, preferably in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and develop finance processes within a changing business environment.
  • Skilled in team leadership and mentoring.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to interpret financial data effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, flexible, and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Energetic, collaborative, and with a sense of humour.
