Overview of the role:

This role helps manage and coordinate all works and activities on the borough's roads to make sure they're done legally, safely, and with minimal disruption. It involves processing and checking permit applications, issuing penalties for non-compliance, and making sure the council meets its legal duties under street works and traffic management laws.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensure compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004, and associated codes, including the London Permit Scheme.
  • Process and assess permit and notice applications from statutory undertakers and the highway authority to ensure accurate coordination and compliance with regulations.
  • Issue notices and Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for permit/notice offences and provide technical reports for dispute resolution.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities affecting the borough highway to meet the council's Network Management Duty.
  • Provide daily supervision, task allocation, and prioritisation to maintain high performance and service delivery standards.
  • Support the Team Leader and Head of Service at public inquiries, meetings, and forums by preparing and presenting technical information.
  • Handle complex and contentious customer service requests, ensuring timely resolution and site visits when necessary.
