Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Plater to join our fabrication team, working on large-scale structural steel projects. The role involves marking out, assembling, and fitting structural steel components in accordance with engineering drawings and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Reading and interpreting engineering and fabrication drawings

• Marking out structural steel sections accurately

• Assembling and fitting structural steel components (beams, columns, frames, etc.)

• Tack welding components in preparation for full welding

• Working with heavy steel sections using overhead cranes and lifting equipment

• Ensuring work meets quality, safety, and dimensional tolerances

• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment

• Working independently or as part of a fabrication team to meet production targets

Requirements & Experience

• Proven experience as a Plater / Fabricator within the structural steel industry

• Strong ability to read and understand technical drawings

• Experience with heavy structural steel (not light fabrication)

• Confident in marking out and assembling complex steelwork

• Basic welding/tack welding experience preferred

• Understanding of health & safety procedures in a fabrication environment

Desirable Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plating, Fabrication, or similar

• Overhead crane or slinger/signaller experience (advantageous but not essential)

Working Conditions

• Workshop-based structural steel fabrication

• May involve long hours, overtime, and shift work depending on project demands
