Job Title: Lead Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Hartlepool
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm
As the Lead Electrical/Instrumentation (E/I) Technician, you will:
- Be responsible for supervising and performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems across the plant.
- You will ensure systems operate efficiently, reliably, and safely, while mentoring junior team members and leading daily technical activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support a team of technicians in safe and effective execution of electrical and instrumentation tasks.
- Carry out installation, maintenance, testing, and repairs on motors, drives, switchgear, sensors, transmitters, control valves, and panels.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance to maximise system reliability and minimise downtime.
- Diagnose electrical and instrumentation faults, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Lead Return To Service (RTS) activities, ensuring equipment is properly tested and verified before operation.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Ensure compliance with safety legislation, company-specific policies, and industry standards.
- Manage the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system and promote a strong safety culture.
- Train, mentor, and support junior technicians in their development.
- Maintain accurate documentation and update ‘as-built’ records in line with company standards.
Skills & Experience:
- ECITB or equivalent apprenticeship, or HNC/D with appropriate experience.
- Valid CompEx Inspection certificate (Ex01–04) & knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Experience working within a Permit-to-Work (PTW) system in hazardous environments.
- Strong knowledge of fire & gas detection, process safety systems, and emergency shutdown systems.
- Additional competence highly desirable:
- Relay protection training
- LV/HV switching and isolating procedures training
- HV Authorisation
- A working knowledge of food industry practices is advantageous.
- Proven ability to mentor and lead technical teams.
