Propulsion Test LabView/Software Developer

Location:             Harwell (predominantly remote with occasional site visits)

Duration:             6 months

Rate:                  £70-£80 per hour Umbrella

Role Purpose

  • Software development for fluidic testing data acquisition & control
  • Ownership of test software & development
  • Co-engineering of associated hardware

Primary Purpose of the Role

  • Co-engineering of data acquisition hardware
  • Selection of test software
  • Test software architecture
  • Test software development including:
    • Automated test sequences created by a user
    • Logging & display acquired data both low & high frequency (pressure, temperature, mass flow rates, mass)
    • Control of solenoid & process control valves
    • Serial data acquisition
    • Error handling & event logger
    • GUI, to be updated by user on test by test basis
    • High frequency data acquisition & data management (~50kHz)
    • Packaging into EXE & installer
    • Modular code to enable easy change or addition of instrumentation
  • Validation & debugging during test commissioning
  • Ongoing ad-hoc test software support during testing
  • Additional duties needs (team meeting etc)
  • Creation of User Manual
  • Training of test team in use of software
  • Weekly team meetings (can be remote)

Proven Ability / Key Skills

  • Creation of test acquisition & control software (LabVIEW or equivalents)
  • Creation of automated test sequences, configuration & calibration files
  • Data acquisition hardware (NI cDAQ, cRIO, PXI or equivalents)
  • High speed data storage (TDMS or equivalents)
  • Large channel counts ~200
