GSL Education are working in partnership with specialist schools across Havant to recruit Behaviour Support Assistants who are passionate about helping young people thrive in a nurturing, structured environment. You will work with children on a 1:1 or small group basis, assessing their progress and discussing development with Teachers, Parents and Carers.

Behaviour Support Assistant Havant | September 2025 Start

Responsibilities of a Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with challenging behaviour, Autism, SEMH and mental health needs
  • Help promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and a safe learning space
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to provide consistent, tailored support
  • Working with children in the classroom setting
  • Managing challenging behaviour
  • Working with students one-to-one and small groups

Requirements for Behaviour Support Assistant:

  • Has experience working with young people, this could be as a Sports Coach, Dance Leader, Scout Leader or something similar (preferred, not essential).
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).
  • Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
  • Can engage children in and out of the classroom
  •  Feels confident managing challenging behaviour
  •  Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.

To work with GSL Education as a Behaviour Support Assistant, you should: 

  • Have the right to work in the UK. 
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years. 
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
