Private Rent Sector Officer

A distinguished Local Authority is experiencing an incredibly busy period, and they are actively seeking a Private Rented Sector Officer on a temporary arrangement. The post holder will be responsible for increasing the supply of private rented properties available to clients of the Council’s Housing Options Team through direct negotiation with private landlords and letting agents.

Duration: Temporary 6 months

Hours: 37 hours a week – Monday to Friday

Hybrid – 2 days a week on site

Your duties include:

  • Increase the supply of private rented properties available to clients of the Council’s Housing Options Team through direct negotiation with private landlords and letting agents
  • Contribute to a proactive service to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by maximising opportunities for them to rent privately
  • Provide a tenancy sustainment service to tenants who have been assisted under the Council’s Rent in Advance and Deposit Guarantee Scheme
  • Provide assistance and mediation to tenants and private landlords in relation to rent payments impacted by welfare benefit changes in order to prevent homelessness
  • Carry out affordability assessments in line with the Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) Order 1996, case law and Homelessness Code of Guidance
  • Investigate claims against Deposit Guarantees in liaison with the Senior Private Housing Options Officer

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent interviewing, negotiating, inter-personal and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly and effectively resolve disagreements or complaints
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the private sector housing market
  • Full driving licence & use of a car
