Financial Controller

12 month contract, £85,000 – 95,000

Grafton Banks Finance is working with a growing PE backed group who are looking to hire a Financial Controller on a 12-month contract.

This role will be responsible for integrating a newly acquired business into the Group’s existing financial systems, processes and controls which includes accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting. It will also be part of the senior management team for this business leading all aspects of the accounting for an SME business.

The role will suit an experienced Financial Controller who has a background working in SME businesses or working in divisions of larger businesses. The role will require someone who is happy being hands on and in the detail and is experienced developing processes and controls. Experience in PE backed businesses or integrating acquisitions would be a distinct advantage. A background in industrial businesses is essential.

The role will be based in Hemel Hempstead and will be largely office based (likely 4 days in office). Salary range for this role is £85,000 – 95,000 + benefits. We are looking for someone to start ASAP so you will need to be available at under two weeks’ notice.

Key tasks:

  • Lead the integration of the acquired company into the groups structure. This will involve:
    • Driving the transition to the group financial system
    • Aligning finance processes and reporting
    • Transitioning transaction processes and systems, including banking and other non-ERP finance-related systems
    • Delivering harmonisation of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Ensure that strong financial governance and risk management is in place ahead of full finance integration. This will involve analysing and interpreting existing financial data and processes to determine opening position and support the implementation of processes and controls that will enable oversight and management of the day-to-day financial operations.
  • Work closely with operational leaders to prepare robust budgets and forecasts that are in line with the requirements of the Group.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Prepare and present monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and board reporting packs
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure financial compliance and risk mitigation
  • Support the annual external audit and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Work closely with commercial, operational, and project teams to improve financial visibility and drive margin improvement
  • Monitor working capital and lead on cashflow forecasting and optimisation.
