Job Title

Job Type: Permanent

Full time: 39.5 hours. However, flexibility to reduce hours to part-time across 5 days, salary pro-rated accordingly

Salary: Circa £31,000 for 39.5 hr week, dependent on experience

Location: Herefordshire, HR7

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated office-based Company Accountant to manage the day-to-day financial operations of our business. Working with our part-time Finance Assistant, this role involves handling everything from data entry and payroll to producing monthly management reports and supporting strategic financial decisions. You will play a key role in maintaining the financial health and efficiency of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions
  • Perform credit control duties
  • Oversee banking administration tasks including overseas transactions
  • Prepare monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports
  • Process payroll accurately and in a timely manner
  • Generate and issue invoices using our database and process them through SAGE
  • Liaise effectively with management, staff, and clients
  • Maintain and update financial information on SAGE and our bespoke CRM
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger balances
  • Complete and submit VAT returns and meet other financial reporting obligations
  • Oversee daily operations within the Finance department
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
  • Supervisory responsibilities for the Finance Assistant.
  • Assign tasks and monitor workflow, addressing issues as they arise
  • Carry out additional finance-related duties as reasonably required by the company

Person Specification

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a senior finance/accounting role
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general IT literacy

Desirable:

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables, formulas, macros)
  • Experience with Sage accounting software
  • Financial experience in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications

Essential:

  • AAT Level 3 to 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting (or equivalent)

Desirable:

  • ILM Level 3/4/5 qualification
