Manpower are currently looking for a Waterway Operative for our client based in the High Peak area of Derbyshire which will be based at Toddbrook Reservoir.

As a Waterway Operative you will be responsible for the general upkeep of the locks and reservoir undertaking low level maintenance duties along with water control and customer service

You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers so the successful candidate must be prepared to work in cold, wet conditions - full PPE will be provided by the client.

You may be required to drive the clients vehicle therefore a full UK driving licence is required and you must have held this for at least 2 years.

This position is working 08.00 - 20.00 4 days on 4 days off with 1 hour unpaid lunch however the client operatives a 24 hour operation therefore a level of flexibility is required.

The is position is initially until April but may go on longer and offers an immediate start for the right candidate. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who thoroughly enjoy working outside.

General duties will include

  • Working outside, carry out maintenance and repair works to the waterway infrastructure, to maximise network availability.
  • Provide customer service through operation of the Trust's assets (e.g. locks and bridges) in a safe and timely manner.
  • Undertake key duties associated with the maintenance of the waterway and waterside eg towpath improvement work from repairs to litter removal.
  • To protect the natural and historic environment associated with the waterways by ensuring their consideration during all works.
  • Provide a first level of response for reactive works to ensure the safety of customers and the availability of the network, participating in an on-call rota as required.
  • Work alongside and lead volunteers, to deliver high quality works, maintaining and building on our high levels of volunteer satisfaction.
  • Support asset inspections, identify and report any structure failures, breaches, damage or pollution incidents to Area Operations Manager or Engineers.
  • Undertake work in a productive and efficient manner delivering the work to the correct standard and agreed programme.
  • Assist in the planning of all work to ensure the correct equipment, materials and plant resources.
