Sullivan Upper is a co-educational, inter-denominational voluntary grammar school founded in 1877, located in Holywood, County Down, on the edge of Belfast Lough. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare chemicals, equipment and materials for lessons; set up and clear away practical resources.
  • Maintain, clean, store and carry out minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
  • Organise and safely store chemicals and resources, ensuring all statutory checks and safety records are maintained.
  • Support the department in meeting Health & Safety requirements, including safe handling, correct labelling, and secure storage of materials.
  • Ensure laboratories and prep areas remain clean, safe and well-organised.
  • Provide photocopying, printing and IT-based administrative support.
  • Maintain inventories, update asset registers and assist with ordering and checking deliveries.
  • Help prepare the department for Open Days, events and examinations.
  • Support pupil safety, assist with first aid (training provided) and help in emergency procedures.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A*-C, including English, Maths, and one science subject, or an equivalent/higher-level science-related qualification.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures relevant to a laboratory environment.
  • Evidence of proficiency in the use of computer and ICT, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calmness under pressure.
