Senior Buyer/ Supplier Manager urgently required to work for a specialist engineering and manufacturing business based near Hook, Hampshire. We require a commercially-driven person to take a leading role in managing procurement across a diverse and technically interesting product range. This is a key position focused on building strong working relationships with key suppliers to manage delivery, quality and cost performance. You will ensure that the business continues to strategically source from reliable suppliers, diversifying vendors, and negotiating robust contracts with clear terms and contingency plans.

You will be taking full ownership of supplier relationships and overseeing onboarding of new vendors, managing and optimising the existing suppliers whilst building strategic partnerships Key to this role is taking the responsibility for sourcing electronic components, motors, fixings, load cells, and other associated mechanical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with key suppliers, driving continuous improvements in quality, cost efficiency, and delivery performance.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of supplier manufacturing processes and commodity markets to anticipate supply challenges and champion process enhancements that align with quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
  • Conduct audits, supplier reviews and complete, evaluate and manage Vendor scorecards for key suppliers.
  • Source, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers across the product portfolio, optimizing the supply base to enhance leverage and support strategic business priorities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of purchasing strategies for our products - implement call-off orders, agree pricing breaks and supplier stock holding.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to oversee the identification and management of non-conforming materials, ensuring robust control processes and accurate documentation for returns and corrective actions.
  • Instigate corrective actions with suppliers and review to ensure they have been closed out
  • Bench mark current product requirement across multiple suppliers and decide appropriate supplier selection based on QCD
  • Ensure stock levels are efficiently maintained in line with the stock guidelines, MRP, production, customer delivery programmes and forecasted planned requirements.
  • Lead and manage business-wide change initiatives by coordinating cross-functional departments, mitigating commercial risks, and ensuring successful implementation within defined timelines.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage suppliers to establish sound replenishment methods
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of procurement practices within a low volume high variance manufacturing environment
  • Experience of SAP would be beneficial but is not essential
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office focusing on Excel
  • An ability to build strong commercial relationships with all stakeholders
  • Aware of procurement best practice and continuous improvement principle
