SEN Specialist Outreach Tutor - Havering
About the Role
Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated SEN Specialist Tutor to provide bespoke, 1:1 educational support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who are currently out of mainstream education. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about making a difference and delivering highly personalised learning experiences.
As an SEN Specialist Tutor, you will:
- Design and deliver individualised learning plans tailored to each student's needs, abilities, and interests.
- Support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language difficulties, and other complex learning challenges.
- Focus on bridging gaps in education, boosting confidence, and re-engaging learners who may have been out of school for an extended period.
- Provide structure and routine to help pupils develop positive learning habits and improve attainment.
- Work closely with Prospero Teaching and local authorities to monitor progress and ensure effective outcomes.
This role is ideal for a qualified teacher or experienced tutor who wants to move away from the traditional classroom setting and deliver flexible, impactful sessions that truly change lives.
Key Details
- Location: Havering and surrounding areas
- Position: SEN Specialist Outreach Tutor
- Hours: 10-20 hours per week (flexible scheduling)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract Type: Temporary, ongoing
- Pay Rate: From 25 per hour
- Session Length: Minimum 1 hour, maximum 3 hours per session
What We're Looking For
- Qualifications:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) preferred
- QTLS, PGCE, or equivalent teaching qualification also considered
- Experience:
- Minimum 6 months experience working with SEN pupils in a UK school or tutoring environment
- Strong understanding of strategies for supporting diverse learning needs
- Skills:
- Ability to engage and motivate learners with varying abilities
- Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
- Safeguarding:
- Up-to-date safeguarding training (desirable but not essential)
Requirements
To be eligible for this role, you must:
- Have the Right to Work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (or be willing to apply for one)
- Provide two professional references covering the last two years
