Health and Safety Officer (12-Month Temporary Contract)

Our client is an established provider of industrial process solutions, delivering engineered systems across multiple sectors. They offer design, supply, installation, and commissioning services, supported by a strong reputation for quality and safety.

They are seeking a dedicated Group Health and Safety Officer on a temporary 12-month contract to cover for the current officer whilst they're away. The contract is expected to run until July/August 2026. The role will support the business unit and H&S Managers in maintaining compliance with legislation and promoting safe working practices across the organisation.

This is a hands-on role, focused on implementing the company's Health & Safety Management System, conducting audits, and providing guidance and support to staff across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in occupational health and safety, excellent communication skills, and practical experience in construction or manufacturing environments.

Health and Safety Officer
Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Business Unit and H&S Managers in maintaining and implementing the Health & Safety Management System.
  • Conduct internal audits, identify non-compliance, and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor H&S statistics and produce quarterly and annual reports, newsletters, and bulletins.
  • Investigate near misses, accidents, and incidents; support root cause analysis.
  • Carry out risk assessments and help develop task-specific RAMS for site and workshop activities.
  • Perform regular planned and unplanned inspections, audits, and site visits.
  • Provide on-site coaching, guidance, and support to managers, staff, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain and develop internal H&S policies and ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Lead in-house H&S training sessions and toolbox talks.
  • Liaise with external auditors, clients, and contractors on health and safety matters.
  • Advise on specialist areas including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, and machinery safety.

Health and Safety Officer
Role Requirements

  • NEBOSH National Diploma, British Safety Council Level 6 Diploma, City & Guilds Level 5 NVQ, NCRQ Level 6, or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • NEBOSH NGC (National General Certificate) preferred.
  • Practical appreciation of risks and operational understanding.
  • Experience in manufacturing and construction site environments.
  • CSCS Card and full UK driving license.
  • Strong IT skills and experience producing reports and H&S documentation.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload, and influence at all levels of the business.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and quality-focused.
